STICKS AND STONES WILL BREAK MY BONES BUT WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME
UNTRUE
my two nieces are about as different as two little girls can be. now that they've dicovered goodies land (aka my room where there is a candy jar and a huge lockNlock container of junk food) they seem to hang out with me in there all the time. i'm learning more about them every day.
the older one is convinced she is a grown up in a body that just hasn't caught up yet. she seriously explained to me the other day that she knows more than anybody in the world; she just isn't supposed to tell people that.
the younger is the definition of a mamma's girl. she's content to grow up in good time. i think there's a lot going on in that head of hers that she doesn't feel compelled to share with the rest of us yet.
last night i got the chance to see how each of them handles being challenged by a figure of authority (well, actually, me). when the older was in the process of being punished (via timeout) for being bad, she turned around and kicked me. hard.
a little while later, the younger also was given a stern talking-to for being naughty. no physical violence from this little gal. she simply looked at me with her serious little brown eyes and said something like "i'm not your friend anymore". i still have an impressive bruise from the kick, but no visible scars from the other's comment. guess which left the biggest impression? how does a kid know that sometimes words leave the biggest impact?
look out for this little gal. she's a heartbreaker.
