HMMMM
hmmm...
do you think that restaurant people do bad things to your food if you send it back? i usually don't order steak, but last night when i had dinner with a friend, the picture in the menu looked good, and i was hungry for steak, so i ordered a 7 ounce top sirloin, cooked medium.
when it arrived, it was (no exagageration) 1/4 inch thick, about 10 minutes past well done, and looked like it had been flattened under a doc marten. i have this total fear of angering people who prepare food, so i hacked off a bite, and chewed....chewed....chewed...and it was worse than it looked.
i really didn't want to either eat it or send it back. if i'd been alone, i probably would have cut my losses and left it on the plate. since i was with someone persitent, i got talked into sending it back. the waitress took the whole plate, leaving me sitting there watching everyone else eat.
i finally got my food back after what seemed a zillion years. the waitress told me that since i had to wait so long, they were comping my food. at this point, i was ready to just leave. however, the new steak looked pretty good, and i thought it would be really rude to leave after they had gone to all the trouble of cooking a whole new plate of food for me...so i ate it.
but...with every bite i thought about the movie "waiting" and wondered just what exactly happened to my steak and mashed potatoes back in the kitchen.
